Social Care Charity Celebrates National Autism Awareness Month

A leading social care charity celebrates National Autism Awareness Month with the launch of a new autism day service.

Green Lane, run by Vibrance, is a specialist day service for adults with complex needs on the autistic spectrum, accredited by the National Autistic Society (NAS).

Vibrance staff, service users, parents and carers were recently invited to Green Lane Service, in Ilford, to celebrate the launch of the new autism service with an afternoon of tea and cakes. The event enabled guests to find out more about autism, through short films and leaflets whilst exploring the new specialist service at Green Lane.

Vibrance supports over 850 adults throughout London and the South East with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs, offering a range of community services, low-support housing, nursing and care homes, short breaks, supported employment and self-directed services. Vibrance is one of just 500 organisations globally to have received Autism Accreditation from The National Autistic Society (NAS). The NAS is the UK’s leading charity for people with autism, and supports other organisations who wish to achieve the highest standard with this area of specialism. Green Lane offers an autism friendly environment and has individual rooms that can be tailored to the needs and interests of the service users. The service is focused on offering a community-based service with a range of social and leisure activities such as country walks, support to attend college courses, swimming, ice skating and day trips.

Vibrance Director of Operations, Peter Chamberlain said: “We’re delighted to have launched our new specialist autism service at Green Lane expanding the services Vibrance offers.

“We are investing in the development of our assessment and support planning services to be able to offer support to a wider group of people with autism in the community. We want to offer the highest standard of service, creating a life of choice and opportunities - and this will now include all our service users at Green Lane.

“At Vibrance we understand the importance of specialist care for individuals with autism and that’s why all of our staff at Green Lane have specialist training to ensure all our service users have the best possible support to meet their needs. Vibrance Green Lane provides services to adults, from the age of 20 to over 60, with complex needs and who can display challenging behaviour if their routine is disrupted. Operating seven days a week, including evening sessions, the support and service is tailored to meet the individual’s needs, with regular activities organised by the care workers.

Vibrance also runs a specialist autism service at Canterbury Road in Leyton, East London.
