Colin Richardson Awards 2012

Photo taken at the Annual Review 2012Colin was Vibrance’s Chief Executive for 12 years and tragically died of cancer in 2008. The Colin Richardson Award was set up in his honour to show appreciation for staff who have made an outstanding difference to the quality of life of an Vibrance service user.

At our recent Annual Review the Colin Richardson Awards for 2012 were presented:

Team Award

This years Team Award went to Ray Park Cafe who were nominated by Sally Ann Childs, a resident at Glengall Rd. Sally nominated the Ray Park Cafe Team because they had become a very important part of her life since the Chadwell Day Centre closed after she had been attending there for 12 years. The Ray Park Cafe Team not only supported Sally’s work experience, they took a real interest in her which had boosted her confidence and self esteem. They helped Sally to learn new skills at the Cafe and she is now using these in her home where she is now helps in the kitchen

Sally wanted to thank the Ray Park Cafe Team for accepting her and making her feel part of their Team and, most importantly, for helping her to overcome the loneliness she felt when she lost her friends from Chadwell.

It is worth noting that since Ray Park Cafe opened the Team have supported around 60 people to have work experience of which Sally is one.

Individual Award

The Individual Award went to Helen Aigbogun, a Support Worker at Orchard Close who was nominated by Timothy Lusty (an ex-resident) and Paddy Dowling (Manager):

The main reason was for Helen’s outstanding support for Tim over the last year as he prepared for the massive life change of moving out of Orchard Close, a registered care home, into his own supported living flat. The amount of work Helen put in was incredible and covered all aspects of Tim’s move including practical things like budgets, diet and cooking but also emotional support around managing his mood swings, remaining alcohol-free and preparing for the challenge of making new friends.

Photo taken at the Annual Review 2012Helen gave Tim the confidence to believe in himself once again showing him he had the ability to succeed, and guided him through all of the preparation necessary which culminated in Tim being ready and confident to move out to his own flat in Ilford which he did recently. In addition, she is providing Tim with follow up support arranging for him to have a continuing role within Orchard Close and continuing to give support from a distance.

She also received the award because of her long standing commitment to empowering the residents at Orchard Close and supporting them to access Vibrance’s User Forums, Workshops and Committees and, last but not least, her combined 26 years of service with Redbridge Healthcare Trust and Vibrance.

We are very proud of these achievements by our staff.

Paul Allen
